In 1994, he landed the leading role in the stageplay, "The Silver Darlings", produced by Robert Carlyle's Rain Dog Theatre Company. It was only a matter of time before Kevin made his screen debut as the vicious gangleader, "Malky Johnson", in Gillies MacKinnon's Vidas enfrentadas (1996). His next role was as the tragic, gentle giant, "Tommy", in Trainspotting (1996).

Trivia*

Tommy, his Trainspotting (1996) character, was the only main character not to be featured in the poster campaign. This was because Kevin went on holiday straight after filming finished, and missed the photo-shoot.

Left a university course in engineering to audition for the Queen Margaret Drama School.

Has a son named Joseph (born 2000) and a daughter named Iona (born 2002).

Played a Roman in Roma (2005) and a Barbarian in "The Last Legion" (2007).

Provided the voice for 'Soap' MacTavish in the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.
